Tsutomu Takeuchi
Dr. Tsutomu Takeuchi is the professor of Internal Medicine, and Chief of Rheumatology at School of Medicine, Keio University in Tokyo, Japan. He is also the visiting professor of medicine at Saitama Medical University in Saitama, Japan.
After completing his medical education at Keio University School of Medicine, Dr. Takeuchi was awarded clinical and research fellowships in the Division of Rheumatology at Keio University, where he received a research award for bone and joint disease. Subsequently, he was a research fellow at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, Massachusetts, where his research centered on human immunology.
Dr. Takeuchi has been working for Rheumatology and clinical immunology in collaboration with many international colleagues and serving for educating young researchers and clinicians. His major research interest is molecular pathogenesis of systemic autoimmune diseases, targeted therapy in systemic autoimmune diseases and prediction of therapeutic response.
He is a productive author and researcher. He has published more than one hundred articles widely in peer-reviewed journals such as Arthritis & Rheumatism, Ann Rheum Dis, J Immunology, J Rheumatology, and J Clin Invest. He serves or served as an editorial board member of Rheumatology, Clinical Rheumatology, Clinical Immunology, and Modern Rheumatology. As a reviewer, he is serving for Nature Review Immunol, Lancet, Arthritis & Rheumatism, Ann Rheum Dis, Rheumatology, Arthritis Research & Therapy, J Rheumatology, Clin Rheumatology, APLAR J, Modern Rheumatology, J Immunology, Eur J Immunology, Int Immunology, and Am J Pathology.
Finally, he is a principle investigator/investigator of several clinical trials against Rheumatoid Arthritis and Systemic Lupus Eryhtematosus, carried out not only in Japan, but also in Asia, including leflunomide, tacrolimus, infliximab, etanercept, tocilizumab (anti-IL-6 receptor antibody), abatacept, golimumab, certolizumab, belimumab, and so on.
As recognition of the international activity in the basic and clinical field of Rheumatology and Clinical Immunology, he has been invited as a lecturer for APLAR, EULAR, South American Rheumatology Meeting, Korean College of Rheumatology, Turkish College of Rheumatology, Congress of Autoimmunity, Asian Congress of Autoimmunity, Aegean Conference of Immunology, Hong Kong College of Nephrology, Hanyang University, Zurich University, and Amsterdam University.
