Nature Clinical Collection

Don’t miss the forthcoming edition of Nature Reviews Rheumatology, which includes four reviews written by key researchers who gave talks at the inaugural Excellence in Rheumatology Annual Conference during February 2011 in Istanbul. These reviews, which were independently commissioned by the editorial team of Nature Reviews Rheumatology, are also included in a Nature Clinical Collection that contains additional relevant content from other Nature Publishing Group journals on two of the main themes covered at the Excellence in Rheumatology meeting. This Nature Clinical Collection is scheduled to go live on 1st July 2011.
Two Key Themes
The first topic covers aspects of inflammatory arthritis, classification of the disease and its relevance to more effective, sustainable therapy. Comorbidities associated with rheumatic conditions are covered by the second umbrella theme.
Four Outstanding Pieces of Research and Important Implications for the Patient
In brief, the researchers presented reviews on:
- Epidemiology of early inflammatory arthritis, contributing to the development of the new ACR-EULAR classification criteria for earlier diagnosis leading to more effective therapy for rheumatoid arthritis (RA) (by Johanna Hazes and Jolanda Luime).
- Development of anti-citrullinated peptide antibodies (ACPAs) as a biomarker for RA and their inclusion in the ACR-EULAR criteria (by Walther J. van Venrooij, J. J. B. C. van Beers, and G. J. M. Pruijn).
- Increased risk of development of cardiovascular disease (CVD) with related advice on risk management (especially for patients with RA and lupus) (by D. P. M. Symmons and S.E. Gabriel).
- Stress management for patients with chronic rheumatic conditions to maximise physical and psychological wellbeing (by A. W. M. Evers, A. Zautra and K. Thieme).
