Prof. Akıncı Tan was born in Istanbul, in 1961. After graduating from Ankara Science High School, she completed her medical education at Hacettepe University and received her MD degree in 1985. After completing her mandatory state service in Ankara between 1985-1987, she began ‘physical medicine and rehabilitaion’ residency at Hacettepe University in 1987. She worked as research fellow at Virginia University USA, department of Internal Medicine, division of rheumatology between 1989 and 1991. She completed her PMR residency in 1991, was appointed as Assoc.Professor in 1995 and Professor in 2002. Meanwhile, she received ‘The European Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitaion’ certificate in 2000. In 2010,  she completed the recertification for ‘European Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation’  and was also certified as ‘European Board Trainer’. She worked as ClassV coordinator at Hacettepe University School of Medicine between 1998-2006. She is currently working as Profesor of PMR at Hacettepe University.
She is the member of ‘American College of Rheumatology’, ‘EULAR’, ‘International Osteoporosis Foundation’ and other several national societies. Presently she is the General Secretary of Turkish League Against Rheumatism.
She has participated in the editorial boards of international ‘Electromyography and Clinical Neurophysiology’ journal and other several national PMR and rheumatology journals.
Dr.Akıncı Tan’s major research interests include inflamatory spondyloarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, neuropathic pain, osteoporosis, osteoarthritis and fibromyalgia syndrome. She has published more than 140 scientific papers in mainly international and national journals.
