Rizgar A. Mageed
Rizgar A. Mageed is Professor of Experimental Immunology at the Bone and Joint Research Unit, The William Harvey Research Institute, Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry, Queen Mary University of London.
Rizgar Mageed was awarded his PhD degree from London University in 1985 on a study of immune complexes and rheumatoid factor autoantibodies in patients with rheumatoid arthritis. Following his graduate studies, Rizgar worked at the Department of Immunology at Birmingham University School of Medicine from 1985 till 1990.
In November 1990, Rizgar was appointed senior scientist at the Kennedy of Rheumatology in London. In September 1996 Rizgar was jointly appointed as Senior Lecturer at Imperial College London and the Kennedy Institute of Rheumatology.
In 1997, Rizgar joined the group of Professor Hugh McDevitt at the Department of Microbiology and Immunology, Stanford University School of Medicine in California, USA as a Visiting Professor.
In 2000, Rizgar was awarded an Arthritis Research Campaign Fellowship and appointed Senior Lecturer at the Centre for Rheumatology at University College London.
Rizgar was appointed to his current position at the Bone and Joint Research Unit in December 2002 and joined the Institute in May 2003. Rizgar’s interests are in understanding the molecular and cellular basis of autoimmunity and relationship with chronic inflammation in arthritic diseases.
His interests include studies genetic and cellular aspects of B lymphocyte responses in patients with rheumatoid arthritis and systemic lupus erythematosus with the objective of using this knowledge to deign targeted therapies.
