Joseph Ahearn
Dr. Ahearn is Chief Scientific Officer and Vice President of Allegheny Singer Research Institute of the West Penn Allegheny Health System. He received his MD and training in medicine, rheumatology and immunology at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and served on the Hopkins faculty until joining the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. Dr. Ahearn is co-founder of the Lupus Center of Excellence and Cellatope Corporation, a start-up company focused on discovery and development of biomarkers for lupus and other inflammatory disorders including stroke and transplant rejection. He holds numerous patents on the technology platform known as cell-bound complement activation products (CB-CAPs). Dr. Ahearn is recognized internationally as an expert in the field of complement and autoimmunity, particularly as related to the etiology and pathogenesis of lupus. He has served on the editorial board of the Journal of Immunology and he is currently executive editor of Clinical and Translational Science.
