Welcome Address

Dear Colleagues,

We are delighted to invite you to the second edition of the annual Excellence in Rheumatology (EiR) international Conference, in Madrid, Spain from 25 to 28 January 2012.

The Conference recruits a distinguished and outstanding international faculty to present and discuss cutting edge scientific findings as they relate to clinical practice. Our aim is to provide rheumatologists and related health professionals with developing scientific knowledge that can be applied in their everyday clinical practice. Ultimately, we aspire to be in a position to generate state of the art guidance on selected topics. To ensure maximum interaction and networking, the conference is capped at 1.500 delegates.

EiR was launched after having identified a number of unaddressed needs at current rheumatology conferences. Therefore, EiR has been built around a number of integral components ensuring:

  • a more clinical focus,
  • smaller sessions, with useful, up-to-date content delivered by experts in their respective fields,
  • a well-organised programme with the right balance of breadth and depth, provided with little overlap between sessions,
  • excellent networking opportunities.

The programme of EiR is currently being developed incorporatingfeedback received from speakers and delegates alike as this information is invaluable in improving and enhancing the conference experience for next year’s edition. The conference will feature numerous interactive, practical and networking sessions (e.g. interactive round-tables, practical workshops, meet the expert sessions). Same as in 2011, the second edition of EiR will follow a 3 day thematic format.

Last but not least, EiR 2012 will also introduce new elements in the agenda including the involvement of patient group organizations and a pre-conference day with Excellence in Rheumatology Schools which will provide a unique opportunity for young rheumatologists to expand their understanding on topics of their interest and receive feedback from peers and senior faculty. In 2012 two schools will operate: one focusing on Systemic Autoimmunity and the other on Arthritis. More information about applications for EiR Schools will be available soon on the conference website.

We look forward to welcoming you in Madrid for the second edition of Excellence in Rheumatology.

Yours sincerely,
