Fernando Cavalcanti

Professor Cavalcanti was a Locum House Officer at Nuffield Department of Clinical Medicine Radcliffe Infirmary (Oxford, UK) 1975. He received his Medical Degree (MD) in 1975, and Master Degree in 2001 from Federal University of Pernambuco (Brazil). He perfomed a residency in Internal Medicine, and then did a fellowship training in immunology and rheumatology at Saint Thomas´Hospital and Royal National Hospital for Rheumatic Diseases (UK) as a British Council scholar (1979-1981).
He has been working at the Department of Rheumatology of Federal University of Pernambuco (Brazil) since 1978.
He was appointed Honorary Research Fellow of the University of Birmingham (UK) in 1987.

He was elected Member of the Regional Medical Council from 1988 to 1998.
He did a training in clinical epidemiology and biostatistics at the University of Toronto as a Rockfeller Foundation scholar in 1998.

He was appointed Vice-President of PANLAR (1994-1998). He is past President of the Brazilian Society of Rheumatology (2004-2006).
He is currently Member of the Editorial Board of the Clinical Rheumatology, the Turkey Journal of Rheumatology, and of the Rheumatology.
His principal interests are:
* epidemiology and clinical aspects of tropical rheumatology
* patient making decision participation
* community-based clinical trials
* evidence-based physical diagnosis 

And is a Member of The New York Academy of Science since 1982, and of The American Association for the Advancement of Science since 1995.
